The addition of 8 pickleball courts to the existing Mike Ward Park has transformed the park’s use group, captilizing on existing open lawn space to provide a new community desired amenity to the charming neighborhood of Woodbridge. The 8 pickleball courts are located near the existing parklot, between the handball courts and the pedestrian bridge to the Woodbridge Village Center. In addition, DVDC assisted in replacing the existing restroom/office building with a site built modular unit.
The addition of the pickleball courts added a much needed park amenity to this area of Irvine, bringing new life to the great park. Setup for reservation or open play, the courts can house small tournaments and city sponsored lessons. The renovation of the park, also ensured park access for the various yearly park events, like concerns and fairs.

The Mike Ward Pickleball Courts are envisioned as a premier recreational destination that sets the standard for future pickleball facilities in Southern California. As Irvine’s second dedicated pickleball site, the project reflects a commitment to community, accessibility, and high-quality design.
Developed by DVDC through planning, outreach, and design, the facility features eight fully amenitized courts, a central plaza that connects players and spectators, and modern conveniences including an information kiosk for real-time reservations and events.
With new restrooms, ADA and landscape improvements, and thoughtfully integrated amenities, the project creates an inclusive, vibrant space that elevates the pickleball experience for the entire community.
